Some of my best memories growing up were from the weeks leading up to Halloween and Halloween night. My dad was the very creative one of my parents when it came to making my brother and I Halloween costumes.
I of course, as well as so many other kids stole a sheet from mom and cut eye holes in it and went as a ghost at least once. That didn’t go over very well. I’m sure that this is when my dad took over in the costume department. One time my brother and I went as the CN Tower and the Skydome, when it was still in fact called the Skydome. Another year we went as a stop sign, and a stop light, fully equipped with transparent coloured sheets for the red, yellow and green lights and I could hold a flashlight up the sheets to make them change colour. When Halloween came around each year, we were clearly the coolest kids on our block.
As we both grew up our Halloween enthusiasm dissipated, the idea of getting pillow cases full of candy and seeing all of our friends dressed up was of course always tempting, but maybe we were just spoiled from our dad making our costumes. We got lazy and didn’t want to put the effort into the costumes that they need. This still holds true, the past three years I’ve gone every year as a “white board” (you get a white t-shirt and let people draw on you in marker… I can see your light bulbs going off from here for your costume for this year) Hey, it’s better then going as a cop, bumble bee or a nurse, I’m always the only one at the parties as a white board.
Speaking of parties, there are plenty of ways to get your "freak" on this Halloween Weekend. See below for details or check out the Lennox and Addington website for events:
